Compliance means respecting the law and ethics means monitoring the courage of law. Now-a-days in the world of corporate scandals, compliance ethics compels good trade.

Ethics, in business, is scowled upon, that is, some people consider it as a negative subject. They think that it is related to the private side of life rather than trade side. They take ethics “as the right choices to make”. But in dealings, a corporate deals in those works which takes it to a ’number one’ position. It does not always make right choices but takes effective steps for the welfare of the corporation. These effective and efficient steps taken by the organization for its development are its ‘ethics’ which common people deem as ‘right choices’.

Compliance ethics should be implemented in each and every corporation so that the assistants follow them and work for the betterment of the conditions in an organization. The juniors should be trained in such a way that the corporate don’t face any disastrous consequences. The presence of compliance ethics in an organization would reduce the chances of punishments, penalties and probable crime liabilities which may rise due to the misconducts of the higher as well as the junior employees of the corporate. Therefore, every corporate should give stress on compliance ethics and give proper training to its officials so that its trade mounts to a ‘number one’ position. A particular procedure should be followed by all the employees of the corporate.

A corporation should incorporate compliance ethics in its system to avoid infringement and hence the punishments. Now a corporation cannot do as it likes, it has to pursue the principles which will result in profit maximization of the enterprise. It should make sure that it follows a proper procedure and is abided by. Then only it can assure that its business is running smoothly and without any complications. If it doesn’t do so then there is a chance of being bankrupted. Therefore, every corporation pays extreme attention towards training the officials. This is carried out through compliance ethics. The new recruiters are provided with booklets of compliance ethics or through educational programs. As technology is advancing, some enterprises are also using software to train the employees. The compliance ethics training of the employees will reduce the misconducts within the working area. But it is required that the training should be short and to the point so that the employees can understand properly and act accordingly. Thus, a training of compliance ethics is a must for each and every organization for its smooth functioning.

Workplace ethics are an addition to the nature of human beings which has a direct impact on the workplace. These ethics are the set of choices made by a person once he gets appointed in a workplace.

But for the efficient working of a company he has to follow some policy which is based on the company’s values. He has to obey these policies as they become a source for ascertaining the code of ethics. There was a time when a few of the people worked in a small cabin. These people were close to each other compared to nowadays. These days, a large number of people are working rarely come into contact with each other, organizations are so large. Here ethics play a great role. It teaches a man how to behave with other colleagues and senior officers.

Though workplace ethics are different for different organizations, below we have discussed about some policy which remains same for every organization.

The first workplace ethic is that as long as we are working in an office, we should not interfere in our boss’s judiciary. They know what is best even though at times it may not seem so. We should not criticize our boss and don’t involve in back-biting behind his or her back, in the office cafeteria or anywhere else. We should not criticize our colleagues as this may create a bad impression. They may hamper our work projects and avoid us, thus creating an atmosphere at work which is not conducive to growth and it can be quite de-motivating to work in such an atmosphere. We should respect our colleagues’ private space and should not interfere in their personal affairs, even though they discuss about it with us. We should not become fanatic and give suggestions regarding their private affairs. We should not compare ourselves with other colleagues as every person is being appointed according to their talent. We should not start cribbing when some one is promoted as this may also happen with us if we deserve it. We should not interfere in any other’s work not meant for us rather we should do work assigned to us in a better way and excel in it. It’s pointless showing off to others around that we are better than them, thus breeding ill-feelings. It’s important to dress up decently, after all it’s a work place and we are not there to impress anyone but just do our job. At times dressing up inappropriately can cause discomfort not only to yourself but also to those around. The clothing that we wear should reflect our position and ourselves. We should not talk about our family at the workplace. Every colleague has a family and they are very much interested to know about our workplace and other colleagues. But they should not be brought to the office unless they are invited.

Thus, from the above discussion we can conclude that a person is bound to follow each and every policy so that he can properly manage the workplace. This is possible through workplace ethics.

‘Ethics’ is a word derived from the Greek word “ethos” which can be justified as a-way of living.

However, today the word has amassed various streams of our concerns and conducts and behavior. Today ethics have been commercialized to examine what is wrong and right, just or unjust, like corporate ethics to deal with business.

The two terms-business and ethics may seem a contradiction but actually they are a ‘necessary condition’ to set up a long term business enterprise and thereafter achieve excellence. Corporate ethics in short are significant. These corporate ethics enable a firm on one hand to define a line between the wrong and right, between various moral and ethical principles arising on business grounds and in the business environment. As a business is build over various individual units, there is usually a contradiction between the individual ethics and the corporate ethics. It indeed is a very tricky situation and as per the scale of a firm the issues relates with these ethics differs. It won’t be wrong at all when one says that anyone in business has a greater power to influence a decision, but who decides that these powerful firms take a decision which is both moral and suited t the community are the codes better known as corporate ethics laid down for these business firms. It also implies that indirectly or directly these business firms have an obligation t pay back to its society and environment.

Corporate ethics not only provides a concrete guidance but can even be related to the social codes that we have to conduct a good and moral social life. Of course, all business firms at one time or other face difficult ethical choices and decisions to be made. Needless to mention that ethics like honesty and responsibility are futile until corporations actually practice them. However, corporate ethics can be said to manifesting in the corporation, its practices and its people.

Moreover, various theories updated till date, in the same context have straightly justified the fact that corporations following these moral codes or corporation ethics usually benefit more then other business firms in the competition. Inevitably what emerge are qualities like teamwork, cost cutting, reduced emissions, a good reputation which are beneficial for the business firm. It in indeed advantageous for any firm to set up a compliance with these codes of business conduct.

These corporate ethics actually work to give a firm all what is ethical and moral. Indeed, these have to be set by the top executives of the firm, to give way to an exemplary follow up by other employees as well. These corporate ethics when are put into practicality give way to virtues which not only establish a business firm as a responsible but even as an ethical corporation. Without a mutual trust of the various responsibilities of the business firms all across the world, the business firms will cease to exist if not set within compliance.

Today ethics and business firms are synonymous to each other. Business firms have realized the importance of following specialized codes of conducts so as to incur qualities like team building.

Catching the trend in the world of business, the education firms are busy imparting business ethics training and opening such schools for employees and employers.

Business ethics is both a normative and a descriptive or in layman’s language both a theoretical and practical subject. Business schools have also added business ethics training as a field of specialization and even made it a part of the normal syllabi. It has been taught as both corporate practice and a career specialization. Various approaches are being applied in this field so as to gain a better understanding of the subject in order to teach them and make it available for managements. Business ethics have shot up after 1980′s and training is now indeed inevitable.

Thus, in the global age, most of the major corporate websites highlight commitments to promote non-economic social ethics under various headings. Thus, today business ethics are being pushed upon everyone in the business world. It is not a surprise that the 50 top graduate schools of business have increased their syllabi to include a number of assignments on the ethics. Change management, which is indeed a new criterion, emphasizes on these ethics and students are the driving force. They are interested in the business ethics training and even want to explore the conventions on both the practical and theoretical basis.

Even the business firms are eager to incorporate graduates who have studied or are through with the business ethics training. It is clearly evident that with the changing definition of business ethics, the scope and arena of business ethics training has also expanded. In today’s world, where every year hundreds of workplace ethics failure make it to the screen of televisions which also lets down the reputation f the concerned firm, needless to mention even the people involved. Business schools are incorporating new techniques and latest innovations to teach ethics especially business ethics to the concerned people. A stubborn management might not follow these ethics and in such a case all one needs to do is change management.

These business ethics and knowledge of them in another way empowers the employer, the employees and even the communities to stop the corrupted party from anything that might have a bad impact on either the community or the environment. No doubts, an ethical business firm is respected by everyone, be it the clients, the suppliers or its employees.

It is clear that business ethics isn’t just a buzzword but can actually be realistically achieved. Business ethic training must be recommended to every employee, all the employers and even the management. Of course, it helps one build a good reputation and even implies qualities like team building in its employees.

Ethics when coquetted in terms of business can be compositely termed as Business Social responsibility.

We all understand that social responsibility can be defined as an ideological theory where anyone be it the government, any firm, an organization or some individual has a responsibility towards the society, direct or indirect. In social terms this responsibility can be differentiated as a negative or positive social responsibility but when associated with business or governmental practices, it becomes more of a management theory.

On a social scale, this responsibility can mean elimination of any corrupt, irresponsible or unethical practice or behavior going on which if not controlled can prove harmful for the community, people or environment. But today not only a society but even a business firm or organization needs to retain and follow ethical beliefs in order to flourish. Rather today management of companies makes sure that they are following the so-termed business social responsibilities. This brings us to question like- what are these ethics that a business firm needs to follow, are they profitable, how does the company following these profit and finally, can a business be socially responsible? Undoubtedly, as each business has a different scale and a different goal, the measure of responsibility varies too.

Management, following these business social responsibilities benefit in three main ways- increased productivity, a good and trusted image and less intervention from the government. Being business social responsible doesn’t mean being a kind of NGO (non-governmental organization) but applying and maintaining simple ethics that won’t cost you but will definitely benefit the community and the environment in the long run, needless to mention even your business. A profitable business is indeed synonymous to a socially responsible management. Having a management that is business social responsible, will also help you to cope with the new laws and restrictions, this will enhance your business performance.

It also helps firms build a reputation of a responsible business and when you are once termed as trusted, business actually grows by leaps and bounds. No wonders, consumers will always prefer a trusted brand, just as a management prefers responsible suppliers. Even the upcoming ‘green customers’ prefer to deal with companies who are environmental friendly and are environment conscious as well, for example Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. The question-whether a firm is doing something additional for the environment or towards the community comes pretty late! Moreover, reduction in emissions or wastes also cuts the firm’s own bills. Other benefits like maintenance of employees of high standards, motivated or quality labor, positive relationships and environments follow. The employer can motivate its employees for an environmental friendly usage. Even the minutest acts like switching off lights, fans, not let water running off without nay use can help a business firm grow both economically and socially. After doing your bit, the managements can also hold seminars or work with the local communities to make them more aware about the business social responsibility and its various advantages. This won’t only build a good reputation but even get you awards and more business. Last but not the least, firms should always keep a measure of the effectiveness of the social responsibility played by them and sidewise keep a check the profits as well, which will give way for future endeavors indeed.

The bottom-line of business social responsibility is the healthy and trusted relationship between the management, the employer, the employees, the suppliers and the customers and nonetheless the environment.

Business ethic can be defined as a stream of applied ethics that scrutinizes ethical codes and ethical problems which can or had arisen in a business environment.

The term ‘business ethic’ may sound like a 21st century phenomena but it can actually be traced back to the times and works of Machiavelli.

Machiavelli known for his political and military theories was also a historian, playwright and a diplomat. He reflected on codes related to the ethics, morals, the why and how of corruption/hypocrisy and the dilemmas of political life. It can be widely related to the modern century marketplace as both the demand and value of ethical business, process and actions is increasing. Today, even codes and standards are being evaluated to make sure that these business ethics are not only put in application but even improved with time and requirements.

Machiavelli’s last part of ‘The Prince’(famous book written by him), it is clear takes inspiration from people of his era that were basically entrepreneurs and were not only witnesses but even contributors to the radical thought process. If one carefully goes through his work, one can find codes that are directly or indirectly related to business and ethics. Undoubtedly, they contain many applications for business and its boom. It also clearly stated that once a man is invested with any kind of power, he has more ways to reach out and influence matters for good of himself and society both. These business ethics and duties are generally debated and exercised under an umbrella term better known as corporate social responsibility (CSR). These business ethics have for long been debated over and over in an attempt to clearly define a boundary between the business ethics and social ethics.

Business ethics in short cover the innumerable ethical problems both theoretical and practical and emphasizes on specific areas of companies with relation to these business codes. Internationally as well these have been grouped together to provide business firms an ethical expansion. To make business firms adhere to such ethical practices  ’International business ethics’ have emerged as an important field in the 1990′s which help in deciphering practical and theoretical issues. Business ethics have been examined from various point of view and have been debated over conflicting interests f the various entities. Philosophers too have been divided on the issue of business ethic. This has given way to a number of theories being developed and curtailed. However Business ethics are easily confused with philosophy of business. Business ethic can also be related to political economy, which is a quantitative and qualitative economic analysis from both political and historical perspectives.

Business ethic in short can be called a code of conduct that has been set for various business firms all throughout the world to make sure that the organizations not only benefit themselves but even take care of the community, its workers and the environment.

When an employee is newly appointed in a firm, he or she is made acquainted with the principles or ethics of the firm.

He is taught by employee ethics programs which basically informs and instructs him of practically everything there is to know. While coming to the firm he definitely does not have any idea of stealing or lifting company information, but if he is not made aware of the ethics program then he might start stealing. Why take a chance, right? The employees ranked at a normal level of morale development might steal, considering that they have not seen or undergone this employee ethics program. But there are few employees that would still go ahead and lift off or pass on company information in spite of them undergoing the employee ethics program. However, this can be checked by employee ethics program but among those who are inclined to honesty. Therefore, if a corporate will not have ethics program then the chances of having these kind of incidents is higher.

Employee ethics programs help the employees to improve self-confidence and maintenance. It is the duty of every organization for monitoring whether ethics programs have been made mandatory or not so that the employees get acquainted with the company’s code of ethics and make decisions using ethical models. Good ethical programs consist of five main aspects. They are responsibility, respect, fairness, honesty and compassion. The program should show that if someone violates the company’s ethics then he will be severely punished so that other employees don’t attempt to violate the law. Here the main role of the corporation is monitoring the ethics programs and supervising whether they have been properly instinct into the minds of the employees or not. These programs become more effective when they are in house training programs because they improve morale of the employees.

The employee ethics program should carry on in a continuous process so that the employees get fully acquainted with the ethical code always. The employees should be taught how to keep the secret documents of the company in a safe way, how to make important decisions of the company in ethical code, how to settle the conflicts of interest, private versus trade, etc. They should be also taught how to behave with the customers, co-workers, and also the organization. The organization should investigate about the employee’s customer treatment, his professionalism and the organizational behavior of the employee. The organization should check whether the employees are following the employee ethics program and acting accordingly. If the ethics programs are not planned and executed properly then the employees will not gain the ethical code of the corporation and they may get punished for violating the codes. Thus, employee ethics programs help an organization by monitoring employees, guiding them and thus improving the morale of an employee.

Today it is impossible for business firms to exist without few guidelines and codes of conduct as far as their business operations are concerned.

In short only an ethical corporation can sustain itself in long run and actually excel.

Ethics can be defined as a way of life and when they are viewed from a business perspective, it comes to scrutinizing and coding the ethical codes and the related problems which can arise in a business environment. The dilemma regarding business ethics seems to diminish when one looks back and traces that these ethical corporations and their codes were trying to be incorporated even in the time of thinkers like Machiavelli. The responsibility of firms is thus declared to be eliminating any unethical behavior that may prove harmful to either environment, workers or the community. To help directors know their responsibilities and enable them to provide guidelines to their workers in an effort to solve any dilemmas related to this issue, the Ethical Corporation has been working from a long time now.

Ethical Corporation has launched its latest FT500 report which exploring one of the major dilemmas related with the GHG emissions and reporting protocols, with the standards measured and scaled up. The research also verifies the Greenhouse Gas emissions reported by various corporations and their preceptor values. The report has been researched, analyzed plus put to paper by the Ethical Corporation Institute. For these who don’t know it has to be referred here that this Ethical Corporation has been projected and established to provide guidelines to directors so as to set the best GHG emissions metrics and check standards for their business firm.

The team from Ethical Corporation started to work on this report in November 2007. The report took in account the info provided by these companies in the last 5 years, regarding emissions, the time and cost burdens of maintaining standards; recommendations and regulations from Government front etc. This report is first collection of various reports dealing with different perspectives of climatic changes due to various business practices on the whole. The Ethical Corporation Institute also plans to get it published in the month of March 2008. The other dilemma breaking reports are namely- ‘A practical guide to Emissions trading and offsetting’ and ‘Corporate energy sourcing 2008′ which will be up in the later part of the year.

Ethical Corporation also plans to hold a meeting which is to be held in Chicago for the native companies to debate strategies, negotiations and ways to deal with the corporate corruption in business operations as US government wants to crack hard on corporate corruption.

It seems initiatives like this, by the Ethical Corporation in a bid to make every other business firm follow the guidelines of ethics and overcome any dilemmas related to such a grand issue will see a grand output soon. The efforts by Ethical Corporation is indeed tremendous.

There are a lot of ethical principles and problems that arise in a business environment.

This is the reason why we have what we call business ethics. It is a kind of discipline that deals with ethical questions in the medical field, technical field, legal field and others. It promotes non-economic social values such as social responsibility, morality, honesty in business practices, safety in the workplace, and other social issues. Ethical businesses work towards preventing the rise of ethical issues which can turn into conflict between different company owners and their employees, including clients and the community. Ethical businesses know how to balance the ideal against the need to produce profits.

When the company that you are working for is considered as an ethical business, it means that the company, its owners and employees have business integrity. It does not only take care of its employees, shareholders, and the company itself but it makes sure that it supports the environment and the society. This is the reason why most companies that exists today work towards becoming ethical businesses.

There are organizations that honor ethical businesses by giving recognition through the form of awards. The winners should be able to exemplify ethical business practices and these should be clearly shown by customer loyalty, enhanced reputation and employee commitment. This encourages all businesses to work honorably whether they are dealing with large corporations or with a single customer.

Corporate Responsibility is a value that every employee should have.

Business ethics is important in more ways than you think because of the impact that it has on your business. Employees who have business ethics are happier in the workplace. The culture of the company is better, the values of each one including that of the company is solid. That is why it should be the corporate responsibility of the owner to instill these values to its employees. From the first moment that the employee steps on office premises, he should be made aware of how important business ethics are to the business.

If every employee and every business owner has corporate responsibility, there would be less corporate problems. There would be less employee dispute, lower turnover rate and others. You will find your company being clamored for by people who want to work for something that they also believe in. That is how relevant it is to this day and age. But before you can even begin to impart to your employees what it is, do you know what it is? Corporate responsibility is being responsible not only to yourself but to your co-employees and the company too. If you have it and all your employees have it, you will find your company thriving and climbing its way to the top.
